Faithful Navigator's Report JANUARY 2012
Marilynn and I sincerely
hope that you and your family have had a blessed Christmas and your life was
filled with the joy of the birth our Lord Jesus Christ. Christmas has always
been a very special time for us. A time to rejoice and spend time with
family and count the many blessing that we have been given.
It is
wonderful to see people’s generosity and love during the Christmas season.
Of special note is the response to the flood that happened in the gym
at St Mary’s that destroyed much of the gifts and groceries, etc., that were
meant for the needy in our community to help them enjoy Christmas. The
response at the 11:30 mass of food, gifts, and the extra cash collection was
overwhelming. And I am sure that it was similar at all other masses that
weekend. It made me proud to be a Catholic and a parishioner at St Mary’s
Church.
Something that
is a bit concerning is that the need of those less fortunate than us goes on
12 months of the year. And as a
brotherhood built on Charity, we must remember that. As an usher, very often
during the year, I see many masses where there is not enough in the food
donation box to send up to the altar. Please remember to be generous all
year long!
A very
successful Fourth Degree Christmas dinner in the chambers on Friday,
December 2nd was attended by 41 SKs, wives and family members.
A very delicious turkey dinner was enjoyed by all followed by a
sing-a-long of Christmas carols to get everyone into the spirit of
Christmas. A special thank you goes to my wife Lady Marilynn, who looked
after the planning, organizing and a big part of the cooking.
I would also
like to thank her helpers: Ladies Eileen Jensen, Dorothy Baxter, Georgette
De Boer, and Susan Turenne who all helped make the meal complete.
And to SK Jens who helped with the decorations and also to all who
helped with the cleanup after.
Many hands make the job light! I
would also like to thank SK Rolly and Lady Jean for donating one of the
turkeys that we enjoyed that night. We were also very happy to have both Fr.
Nelson and Fr. Bryan join us for the dinner and thanks to Fr. Nelson for
asking the blessing. Although we
were a little disappointed that they didn’t stay and help us sing carols!
A couple of
reminders: The next Pancake Breakfast to be held is on Sunday January 29th,
2012, so please contact SK Jens Jensen or SK Blake Baxter if you can work
for all three breakfasts or part of the time. They are trying to have enough
people to create two groups to lessen everyone’s work time, so please come
out and help. It is a very enjoyable time to visit with your Brothers and
other members of St Mary’s Parish.
A reminder that a Fourth degree Exemplification will be held at St.
Monica Parish Hall, 12011 Woodhead Road, Richmond, BC on Saturday, Our next meeting is at the
chambers at
In closing, Marilynn and I would like to wish all of you and your
families a very happy and healthy 2012. And I would like to close with one
of my favorite quotes, which is from Mother Teresa, “The best sermon is a
good example!” One we should always remember.
